News (now with Magical Hei-sama!)

It's national Eat Eel Day, woo-hoo! Got some unagi kabayaki waiting to be devoured; just needs a brief introduction to Mr. Microwave. First, though...the news!

SAIYUUKI RELOAD GUNSTOCK

The Saiyuuki Reload Gunstock contest is underway now at Journey To The REST--be sure to CHECK IT OUT! Featuring three Grand Prizes--the best-ever book "Saiyuubito," which came out today--and two Honorable Mention prizes of the Summer 2005 WARD...to be awarded during next month's sure-to-be-memorable Saiyuuki Reload Gunstock outdoor concert (nifty logo to be up soon)! Enter and help celebrate the Summer of Saiyuuki Love!

The entry deadline is August 10, and I'll be judging during the long, long hours in line for all three days of the Summer Comiket, August 12-14. The concert gets underway August 16!

"JOURNEY TO THE REST" ON HIATUS AUGUST 1-15

Have been trying to make at least Sunday updates, but life is soon going to get extra-nuts--and the closer the start of crazy-time gets, the better an idea it seems to concentrate on getting ready. This weekend in Shinjuku is the 24-Hour Nonstop 1,000-Anime-Song Medley, apparently a combination of live performances (including MIQ and Takayuki Miyauchi) and video. Then comes five days of hyper-panicky karaoke practice (this week has every-day karaoke practice too, but just mildly panicky ;^) ) for next weekend's big 10th edition of Kimi Mo Solo De Utau-zo, hosted by Akira Kushida for his fans...signed up to sing "Jiraiya" on Saturday and--what the hell was I thinking?! Damn you, Zakuro!--"Kinnikuman Sensation" on Sunday. Then the following weekend is the Summer Comiket on August 12-14, with anime song concerts the second and third nights too. (And then sleep--lots of it!) Am very sorry there won't be anything new to see on JTTR for so long...but hope to make the wait worthwhile when the site reopens with Saiyuki Reload Gunstock on August 16! Gonna need your help to do that, natch--really hope you'll enter!

ZEROSUM

September issue: 14 pages of "Saiyuki RELOAD," all black and white...in which Sanzou lets loose and lands a new weapon, yowza!! EDIT: Lookit him go in this three-page sequence: PAGE 1, PAGE 2, and PAGE 3!

SAIYUUBITO!!

The bad news is, no fan art or questions from outside Japan were used.

The good news is, from cover to cover, it's 112 pages of wondrous stuff! Big new color art of the main cast (Kougaiji lounging in a mesh shirt! Hazel thinks he's the Virgin Mary! Super-adorable Gokuu; even more eeejy-weeejy Jeep! Nii and Koumyou fans will be happy... And ohhh, what a Gojou...!), eye-opening peeks at embryonic doujinshi (that's Gojou?!), a detailed timeline (plan to translate this and put it up on JTTR, pronto!), a lovely large section of pencil roughs (including one I'd seen live and wanted so much to use in a trivia fact...can do it now!), Minekura-sensei's own comparative analysis of the original Saiyuuki tale and her version...and more, and more, and MORE!

Aaaaando...Magical Hei-sama.

Thigh-high boots with heels. Skimpy li'l shorts surprisingly stuffed. Bare-waisted, draped with feather boas. Hazel. By Minekura-sensei.

Think I'd, uh, better eat that eel to get the stamina to face Magical Hei-sama again, and then fire up the scanner to share the glee! ;^)

EDIT: If you're sure your heart can take it, HEEEEEERE'S MAGICAL HEI-SAMA! (Although it doesn't say, think this may be one of the designs in the set of clear cards premium for folks who bought RELOAD #5 along with the Spring WARD or July ZERO SUM.)

And if a scan isn't possible - would you consider, like, me offering to pay for a copy of Saiyuubito, postage included, as well as sending art as a thenkyou for your slinging said book at my little otaki head? Because I'm jonesing at this book. A lot. XD;

Holy mother of...!!! I need to see that! I am a super Hazel fan and my nosebleeds at the thought of skimpy outfit. Minekura needs to give me a sanzo that way XD!

Do you think the book will be sold at a Kinokuniya? I really would like to order it. Can you give me an ISSN # or an advertising? If i can print something like that, I am pretty sure that Sato-san at SF Kino can get it for me.

I see that jpqueen.com is selling a few copies of Saiyuubito. I've purchased a lot of things from them over the years and have always had a good experience. I also see a copy of it for sale on ebay. Finally, as I wrote in my other post, I pre-ordered mine from Kinokuniya, so you might be able to get a copy that way too. Good luck!!

Thank you once again for all the wonderful updates. I can't believe Sanzo is holding a sword! Holy cow! I also appreciate the "Upcoming Release" section of your webiste because I am able to know what exciting Saiyuke things to pre-order. I pre-ordered Saiyuubito and (if all goes well) I hope to receive it soon. Your scans are making me even more excited. Oh, I hope Kinokuniya was able to get it for me and will ship it soon. eto... i think that the page sequence of Sanzo-san with the "new weapon" is actually the sword he caught from the bad guy... do you see what i mean? i think he might've flung it up into the air off his gun and caught it ^^;; was this previously noticed by anyone else? :x

but eitherway *waves hand* this means i must search out and buy the Saiyuki artbooks and stuff while i'm in japan this fall for school then ne? *____* squee~

*drooling* I feel short of breath after discovering your site and all of this shininess. Wish I had two more years of Japanese under my belt and a plane ticket (and a job so I could stay in Japan.) How have I missed your site for so long? I've just friended you in order not to miss another wonderful posting about my passion for Minekura sensei. Thank you!

To my delight, jpqueen has Saiyuubito, and it's also available at Japanese bookstores in other countries, such as Sasuga and Kinokuniya. It's just... wow.
