Frightening Minekura news
Scary news from Minekura-sensei! Verbatim from Journey To The REST:

--

2/23/2007: FRIGHTENING MINEKURA NEWS -- Fans were alarmed when the double-long chapter of Saiyuki RELOAD in last month's March ZERO-SUM ended with the news that the next chapter would be in the May issue, not April. Minekura-sensei addressed them quickly, explaining in her diary on official site Nitro that this was an extremely busy time for her, between preparations for the "Saiyuki RELOAD - Burial-" OVA starting in April and a treasure trove of contributions to the May ZERO-SUM, its gala 5th anniversary issue coming out March 28.

But in her Nitro diary today, she at last mentioned some details of her ongoing physical problems--and they are truly scary. Her uterus has swollen to become "about the size of a child's head." The swelling prevents her from being able to close her legs, and it is tremendously painful for her to sit. She's now feeling pain at other times, too.

She plans to have surgery sometime this summer, and will share the details when she knows them.

--

What say we all go to Kanagawa (it may take all of us to hold off her editors and publishers!) and carry her to the hospital, to get taken care of now instead of later?!

This SUMMER???? What is *with* the doctors over there?

Seriously, the doctors here are MORONS, particularly when it comes to women's health. I'm no doctor, but I'm thinking that uterus the size of a baby's head = huge tumor. O_O Minekura-sensei needs to smack her doctor repeatedly with Sanzou's fan until she gets an earlier surgery date.

Oh god what a terrible thought ;_;

Minekura seems to have a LOT of work, do you think stress could be a huge culprit in her poor health? ;_;

She's a very brave woman..I hope she gets this done sooner. Her health should be the utmost importance right now!

Woah, I completely agree. We should bring her now, that's pretty worrysome. Hopefully she'll go on her own, though. I hope she gets better soon!

Oh my god, that's horrible. I feel a little of her pain, because I have Sciatica and when it flares up it hurts like crazy to sit.

I have a feeling that if the pain is as bad as she says it is, she'll decide to go in earlier than the summer. I hope she does too, because wow. I hope she gets better soon. >.o

No! ;__; I worried something like this would happen since she seems to REALLY over work herself! Oh poor Minekura! :( I hope she's taking a well deserved break! Poor poor thing...

Is there anyway we can send her a big get well card? :( I think she REALLY deserves it for all the hard work she's done...

Thank you for this information :( It's very scary...

YAAAGHHH

I hope it's something not-critical? Like, a bitchy but benign and easily-removed cyst, something like that. ngh.

Japan, your doctors need my foot in their anus for not seeing her sooner.

She should go to the hospital now! I'm not too sure why she's holding it off but the sooner she do the surgery, the better.

O_O I fear for her now. Poor Minekura... I hope that she's all right... well... obviously she isn't... but I hope that she'll be all right... soon... thinking of waiting on something like that until summer makes me mighty anxious for her...

Was there talk at one point of her having been diagnosed with endometriosis? It's hideously painful (I know since I recently had an operation myself because of it) but possibly not immediately life threatening? Although it sounds as if it should be.

And if it's bad, they may decide to remove her reproductive system - potentially a serious measure at her still young age that she may want to find alternatives to if at all possible. That might be why the operation isn't being rushed; not incompetency on the doctor's parts... Don't know though, so I guess all we can do is pray for her better health.

Was there talk at one point of her having been diagnosed with endometriosis?

For whatever reason, I'm also thinking that's what she had been diagnosed with. I'm almost hoping that's what it is despite having watched a friend go through that (and eek, I'm sorry that you had some firsthand experience), since anything else that would enlarge her uterus like that sounds even more frightening

She mentioned it on her blog before (sometime last August) as "retroversion of the uterus", which apparently can lead to endometriosis or other things. From the translation [info]anthey did, it sounded like that diagnosis was a few years old. Could very well have developed into endometriosis by now.

Whatever it is, I hope the surgery goes well and that she has a full recovery. :(

Wow, that is scary. Waiting until the summer is quite worrisome. That's a long time to wait. 8^( Too bad she can't get seen sooner though. 8^(.. The summer is a long ways away... 8^(

We'll just have to keep her in our thoughts and prayers... Hopefully the doctors will be able help her.

CRAP! That is frightening! I was thinking of another trip to Japan...I guess I will have to help you hand-deliver her to the doctor. I hope she is under constant check-ups. SIGH...it sounds truly painful.

Do you know if there is an addres where we can send her well wishes or cards or whatever?? We should support her.

I don't know much about medicine, but a uterus that swollen sounds like it needs to be removed. Minekura is young and that may seem harsh but the world might lose such a wonderful artist and storyteller if she doesn't get treated! I hope everything will turn out okay.
If Minekura has put off treatment for work, she is a very strong and determined woman. That's very admirible.

Seriously...whatever her diagnosis, any kind of surgery is very scary. having had surgical procedures thrice, my thoughts are definitely with her!

If you know anyone who has contact with her, do let her know that we are thinking of her and I'm sure most of us will have her in our thoughts and prayers.

Eesh, that's horrible. I thought she may've already had surgery when I first started hearing about this. I don't know how she can work in this condition. I've known a few people who have had similar problems, and they always had surgery fairly quickly in comparison. :\ I really hope they can do something before summer. I just want her to feel better.

Graah I had a feeling I was going to get a scare like this sometime ~_~ Hopefully just a scare.

Oh, I hope she knows what she's doing...waiting until summer to get surgery...I mean, you hear about the Japanese work ethic but still..."the size of a child's head"? Don't die please, Minekura-sensei! ;o; You need to tell the tale! You can't leave all your children behind!

Let's all write a bit letter saying "Your English-speaking fans believe you need to take care of yourself now not later! Please take care of yourself, Minekura-sensei! TT_TT"

I guess it hasn't occurred to anyone that even if her condition may not be 'life threatening' that putting off surgery for so long could make things even more complicated than it needs to be. Not to mention she's in pain now so why walk around in pain for months when relief can be had sooner?

Geez! Let the woman get the surgery now... she can still work from a hospital bed if her editors are that insistent. (She might even like the diversion then).

Here's hoping all goes well for Minekura sensei for months to com (and now).

With all the stress she must stand and also this... I guess she has her reasons to wait till summer but anyway sounds too significant to wait that long. Wish we could do something else beside have her in our thoughts.

Crap crap crappity crap crap. CRAP IN A HAT. I have had far too many friends being seriously ill lately, and I don't like this news at all. Yes, I think she needs to be escorted to the hospital and the doctors firmly informed that they will take care of her NOW.

*sigh* Failing that, keeping her in our thoughts and sending good-health vibes her way can't hurt either.

I was just checking LJ and reading this just shocked the hell out of me. I would have never thought she had any kind of illness all this time. I guess she felt she didn't want to scare her fans but the thought she felt she had to say it worries me.

How can they possibly have let her continue working all this time with such a problem?! I would have never imagined she had such a physical problem.

I agree with you: WE should take her to the hospital this very minute. As much as we all lover Saiyuki I doubt any of us want to see her get even more sick. If good wishing does anything I hope she'll recover soon.

Well, as much as I hate to say it, it probably has something to do with all the smoking. Seriously, I heard she smokes like 3 packs of cigarettes a day.
