We knew this was coming, but...

Just put this up on Journey to the REST:

5/28/2007: 'RELOAD' AND 'GAIDEN' TO GO ON HIATUS The July ZERO-SUM came out today in Japan, with the first half of a "Dragon Ball"-esque Saiyuki RELOAD two-part side story, an alternate dust jacket for about-to-be-released manga tankoubon Vol. 8 (its back-cover illustration is at right), and a full-page explanation from Minekura-sensei that she'll be taking a break from RELOAD and Saiyuki Gaiden to be hospitalized to have her health problems taken care of.

Saiyuki RELOAD will go on hiatus after next month's conclusion of the two-parter. Meanwhile, the Saiyuki Gaiden chapter that came out in the Spring WARD May 16 will be its last for a while, but Vol. 3 of the collected manga will be published July 25 in Japan, so Minekura-sensei hopes fans will enjoy that instead.

She hopes to have RELOAD return in the October ZERO-SUM, which will come out August 28, but cautions that she doesn't know yet if that will be possible. (The Autumn WARD, coming out November 16, is the target for Gaiden's return, according to the May 16 Spring issue).

In the meantime, fans will have a flurry of other releases. Saiyuki RELOAD manga tankoubon Vol. 8 comes out May 31 (delayed from May 25). The "Saiyuki RELOAD GUNLOCK Vocal Album Vol. 2" CD comes out June 22 (with Gojyo/Dokugakuji duet "Respectively," Hazel solo "Angel," Sanzo solo "Rain," Goku solo "Orange," the Sanzo/Goku/Gojyo song "Moon," and two mini-dramas). On June 24, the commercial DVD recording of Axle's "Saiyuki" stage production will be launched with a special live event in Osaka. And on July 25, both Saiyuki Gaiden manga tankoubon Vol. 3 and the Standard Edition of the first chapter of the "Saiyuki RELOAD - Burial-" OVA will come out.

Thank you for the news!
So we'll be without "Saiyuki" only on July and without "RELOAD" since August?
What do you mean with "Dragonball"-esque? O_O !

Oh, noes, much waiting ahead.

*sigh*

Why are some of my fave series' on hiatus? I suppose manga-ka must have some free time and relax.

Thanks for the news.

It doesn't matter in the least. The most important thing is for Minekura-sensei to get better. And I sincerely hope she does!

Sanzo, Gojyo, Goku and Hakkai (and Jippu) will just have to wait, as we her fans wait for her.

Thanks for sharing this news, both good and a little sad.

Oh no.... I am so worried about my favourite Manga-ka ! I really hope she gets better completely. Even if she cannot produce any new material for a while, I hope she will take a well-deserved rest and heal well.

However, I am glad to note that all the publications will keep her fans locked-on to her work. I will definitely support her by getting the new releases as soon as I can. Her distinctive personal artistic style and conceptual vision are very precious to me.

Thanks for the updates. My Minekura-sensei have a smooth and speedy recovery after her hospitalization. She's too young to keep having health probs. We're the same age so I really feel for her.

Too bad her fans can't send her a message about how much we adore her work and such. Well, I'm sure we could send her something but who knows if it will reach her. Anyway, shutting up now and thanks again.

Poor Minekura-sama. I hope she does rest herself properly this time. Can't we put together something to send to her agent? Something that tells her we care and not make her feel pressured about returning before she has healed? *sigh*

I was shocked that she was able to do what she has in the past few months with her health condition - she really is a remarkable woman. And even though I'm like the rest of fans and want more Saiyuki, I hope she gets better soon for herself, because I know how much it sucks being out of comission for anything.

...on a lighter note, the mention of a DragonBall-ish sidestory makes me squee incredibly much. My brother and I got into Saiyuki at the same time, and one of the reasons I picked it up is because they were both based off of the same legend. And yes I'm still a Dragonball fan. I can't wait to read it.

While I'm sad that there will be no more Saiyuki for awhile, I'm glad it's because she's getting her health taken care of. That's more important.

*squeee* on the cover to 8!

I'm just grateful that Minekura will be taking some time off for her health and to recover. It was scary to hear about her conditions, and at the same time I couldn't believe how much she still wanted to give to us fans. I know I sound like a total dork/nerd/geek, but you have to honor that kind of devotion she has.

I'm going to have to be on the look out for 8 in a few months in america. I still want volume 7 because I want to see the cleaned up battle scenes in the hakkai vs seiten fight :3 I wish we could get gaiden down here too!

Thanks for all the information you've been feeding us :D You've satisfied my need for saiyuki information for years~

Thank you for the news. I'm so glad to hear she's finally going to have everything taken care of. She's amazingly strong to have worked for so long in her condition. I hope she'll feel better really soon.

And I can't wait to get all the new stuff. ^_^

I'm just glad Minekura sensei is FINALLY going to a hospital. From all her health woes I wondered why she held off going for so long. I know work is important but GEEZ!!!! Here's wishing her good health. I can live with a bit of a hiatus as long as we know the mangaka is getting her health back. Thanks for the heads up.

I'm glad, for her sake, that Minekura-san is taking some time out.

There was a time when it looked as though Gaiden would struggle to reach 3 volumes before the inevitable happened, but there should be more!

Starts plotting to buy the new books.
